Claude is great at writing the brief, but it can’t draw. It has no image generator of its own, and xAI’s Grok Imagine isn’t built in. The fix takes about a minute: add AiWings as a connector, and Claude can make Grok Imagine images in the same chat where you planned them.
What you need
- A Claude account on a plan that lets you add custom connectors.
- An AiWings account (sign in with Google). Usage comes from your AiWings credits.
- About a minute.
Step 1: Add AiWings to Claude
You only do this once. After that, Grok Imagine is available in every Claude chat with the connector turned on.
- 1In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.
- 2Name it AiWings and paste the URL below.
- 3Click Connect, then sign in to AiWings and allow access.
- 4In a new chat, make sure AiWings is turned on in the tools menu.

Name the model in your request. Claude writes a detailed prompt, calls the AiWings image tool and shows the result in the chat. It’s a good idea to let Claude plan first: ask it to sharpen your idea, then generate with Grok Imagine.
Use Grok Imagine to make a 20:9 anime-style scene of an empty rainy train platform at night, with glowing signs and puddles reflecting the lights.Grok Imagine handles very wide and very tall shapes. Here are real, unedited results:

Step 3: Restyle your own image
Ask Claude to open the AiWings upload box, add one image, and describe the style you want. Grok Imagine takes a single reference image.
Open the AiWings upload box. Then use Grok Imagine to restyle my product photo as a 1960s printed ad with a retro palette. The original on the left, and the Grok Imagine restyle on the right:

Grok Imagine at a glance
Grok Imagine is xAI’s image model, built for speed and style. It works the same way everywhere you add it:
| Model | Sizes | Reference images | Cost per image | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grok Imagine | 1K | Up to 1 | 3 credits ($0.03) | Fast style experiments, wide and tall shapes |
Prices are at the top-up rate of $0.01 per credit, and plans include more credits per dollar. At 3 credits ($0.03) an image it’s one of the cheapest ways to explore. To stop naming the model every time, say “make Grok Imagine my default”.
Tips for Claude and Grok Imagine
- Let Claude write the prompt: describe the mood and ask for three directions before generating.
- Ask for 9:20 when you want a phone wallpaper and 20:9 for a cinematic banner.
- Name a style outright: baroque oil painting, 90s anime, photoreal fantasy.
- Explore several versions: at three credits an image, trying ideas is cheap.
- Use a Claude Project for a brand: put your style notes in the project and every Grok Imagine image in it follows them.
If something doesn’t work
- Claude says it can’t make images: check that AiWings is turned on in the chat’s tools menu, then ask again.
- The connector shows no tools: remove it in Settings → Connectors and add it again with the same URL.
- Sign-in loops: allow pop-ups for claude.ai and finish the AiWings sign-in in the same browser.
- Out of credits: top up from your AiWings dashboard, then ask Claude to try again.
Bottom line
Claude can’t make images on its own, but with AiWings connected, Grok Imagine is one sentence away. The same connector also gives Claude GPT Image, Nano Banana, Imagen and Seedance video, all from one balance.
FAQ
Can Claude use Grok Imagine natively?
No. Claude doesn’t include xAI’s Grok Imagine. You add it with AiWings, then ask for Grok Imagine by name.
What shapes can Grok Imagine make?
1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 2:1, 1:2, 19.5:9, 9:19.5, 20:9, 9:20, plus an auto option. That includes very wide 20:9 and tall 9:20 phone-wallpaper shapes.
Can Grok Imagine edit my images?
Yes, with one reference image. Give it an image and describe the new style, and it restyles it. For edits that use several references, pick a model that takes more, such as Seedream, Nano Banana or GPT Image.
Which Claude plans can add the connector?
Any Claude plan that lets you add a custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add AiWings for the organization first.
