Claude is great at writing the brief, but it can’t draw. It has no image generator of its own, and OpenAI’s GPT Image models aren’t built in. The fix takes about a minute: add AiWings as a connector, and Claude can make GPT Image 2.5, GPT Image 2 and GPT Image 1.5 images in the same chat where you planned them.
What you need
- A Claude account on a plan that lets you add custom connectors.
- An AiWings account (sign in with Google). Images use credits from your AiWings balance.
- About a minute.
Step 1: Add AiWings to Claude
You only do this once. After that, GPT Image is available in every Claude chat with the connector turned on.
- 1In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.
- 2Name it AiWings and paste the URL below.
- 3Click Connect, then sign in to AiWings and allow access.
- 4In a new chat, make sure AiWings is turned on in the tools menu.
https://aiwings.io/api/mcpStep 2: Ask Claude for a GPT Image picture
Name the model, and a quality level if you want one, in your request. Claude writes a detailed prompt, calls the AiWings image tool and shows the result in the chat. Let Claude plan first: ask it to sharpen your idea, then generate.
Use GPT Image 2.5 at high quality to make a 16:9 UI component sheet with Primary, Secondary and Disabled buttons, a toggle labeled Notifications and a search field that says Search models.GPT Image is especially good at layouts and exact text. Here are real, unedited results from the GPT Image models:

Step 3: Edit your own images
GPT Image keeps the original’s structure while changing what you ask for. Ask Claude to open the AiWings upload box, add your image, and say what should change and what must stay.
Open the AiWings upload box. Then use GPT Image 1.5 at high quality to show my house at sunrise instead of dusk. Keep the architecture, the pool and the camera angle exactly the same. The original render on the left, and the GPT Image 1.5 edit on the right: same building, new time of day.

Which GPT Image model to pick
All of them work the same way in Claude. Pick by the job:
| Model | Quality levels | Reference images | Cost per image | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | low, medium, high, xhigh, max | Up to 10 | 2–63 credits ($0.02–$0.63) | Precise edits, dense text, finished work |
| GPT Image 2.5 Flare | low, medium, high, xhigh, max | Up to 10 | 2–63 credits ($0.02–$0.63) | Layouts, UI sheets, everyday work |
| GPT Image 2 | low, medium, high | Up to 10 | 2–16 credits ($0.02–$0.16) | Brand boards, packaging, posters |
| GPT Image 1.5 | low, medium, high | Up to 10 | 2–17 credits ($0.02–$0.17) | Edits that keep every detail |
Prices are at the top-up rate of $0.01 per credit, and plans include more credits per dollar. Start at low quality to explore ideas, then re-run the winner at high or above. To stop naming the model every time, tell Claude “make GPT Image 2.5 at medium my default”.
Tips for Claude and GPT Image
- Let Claude write the prompt: describe the goal (“a launch poster for a jazz night”) and ask it to propose three directions before generating.
- Put exact words in quotes and say where they go: a headline reading “NIGHT SHIFT” across the top.
- Explore at low quality, finish at high: the low tier costs a fraction and is enough to compare ideas.
- Ask for variations in one go: “make three versions with different color palettes” keeps the comparison in one message.
- Use a Claude Project for a brand: put your style notes in the project and every GPT Image result in it follows them.
If something doesn’t work
- Claude says it can’t make images: check that AiWings is turned on in the chat’s tools menu, then ask again.
- The connector shows no tools: remove it in Settings → Connectors and add it again with the same URL.
- Sign-in loops: allow pop-ups for claude.ai and finish the AiWings sign-in in the same browser.
- Out of credits: top up from your AiWings dashboard, then ask Claude to try again.
Bottom line
Claude can’t draw on its own, but with AiWings connected, GPT Image is one sentence away. The same connector also gives Claude Nano Banana, Imagen, Seedream and Seedance video, all from one balance.
FAQ
Can Claude use GPT Image natively?
No. Claude doesn’t generate images at all on its own, and OpenAI’s GPT Image models aren’t built in. You add them with a connector such as AiWings, then ask Claude for GPT Image by name.
Which GPT Image model should I use in Claude?
GPT Image 2.5 (Sunburst or Flare) is the newest, with five quality levels from 2 to 63 credits. GPT Image 2 has three levels (2 to 16 credits), and GPT Image 1.5 (2 to 17 credits) is the one to reach for when an edit has to keep every detail of the original.
Is it good at text in images?
Yes. In our samples, GPT Image rendered posters, UI sheets, labels and magazine layouts with the words spelled exactly as asked. Put the text in quotes in your request and say where it goes.
Can Claude edit my own images with GPT Image?
Yes. Ask Claude to open the AiWings upload box, drop your images in, and describe the change. GPT Image takes up to 10 reference images.
Which Claude plans can add the connector?
Any Claude plan that lets you add a custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add AiWings for the organization first.
